About Florence Crittenton Services
Florence Crittenton Services is a Denver.metro area nonprofit that has been supporting women for over 125. Our mission is to educate, prepare, and empower teen mothers and their children. Through a partnership with Denver Public Schools, we operate a campus family resource center comprised of a high school for pregnant and parenting teens, age 14-21, a Colorado Shines-rated Early.Childhood Education Center for their children, age 6 weeks-5 years, and a variety of other wraparound services, including a Student and Family Support Program, a basic needs store, an on-site school-based health center including a dental clinic, and a variety of career and technical pathways for graduates.
How You Can Serve.

There are a variety of ways to be involved at Florence Crittenton Services, and depending in class schedules, there may be an opportunity to hybridize the work if students are interested in multiple types of work.
Early Childhood Education Center: Students can work in our Early Childhood Education Center as assistants to our teachers by playing with the young children, and holding the babies. On any given day, we may have up to ten children in a classroom with two teachers, and students are valued extra hands and hearts to care for and help teach our young children. Availability: Students must be able to be here 2x per week for at least two hours between the hours of 8:00 am-3:00pm.
Nonprofit Administration: Students can gain a comprehensive view of development work at a direct service nonprofit by working on special projects, and helping to manage our basic needs store. Great for students interested in learning more about how nonprofits work function, and work that goes into creating and maintaining sustainable programs. Availability: Students must be able to be here at least once per week for at least three hours between the hours of 9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Additional requirements/paperwork: Volunteer application and interview, background check, and three free online trainings that take approximate 1hr. each (training required for ECE interns only!)
About the Valverde Neighborhood
The incorporated Town of Valverde was founded in 1899 while the area was in Arapahoe County. In 1902 the Town of Valverde was dissolved and annexed to the City of Denver under the Colorado Session Laws of 1893. The name "Valverde" mean "green valley" in Spanish. The early developers saw the beautiful rea buffering the South Platte River as a valley of flourishing green, natural vegetation, and trees. Historical development in the neighborhood took place first in the area along Alameda Avenue and east of Tejon Street. This area formed the nucleus of the old Valverde community, along with the northeastern part of Athmar Park and the adjacent industrial areas of Athmar Park and Sun Valley neighborhoods. After the turn of the century, development began in the area east of Tejon Street, but it was not until 1915 that substantial construction activity occurred.
